Unexpected but Necessary ~ Scent Garden Cottage Bakery, Pollinator Farm & Wildlife Habitat
Isn't it wild how life is like a box of chocolates? It's ever-changing and full of surprises!
In 2022, I came to Tennessee to care for my father, to support him through illness and aging, basically through the remainder of his life's ups and downs. During caregiving, it became clear that food mattered deeply - not as a set of restrictions, but as a source of strength, nourishment, and healing. Our food needed to be the best I could offer. It had to support his body and mind, it had to strengthen his health, not burden it.
That desire shaped everything that followed. And boy did a lot follow!
The garden came first; it was grown with a simple intention: no chemicals. I spent my time looking after its progress, nurturing it with patience and perseverance. Man, growing a garden is an act of love!
Through the following seasons, my garden taught me a deeper understanding of wellness - and how all living things (plant, animal, insect, and humans) are connected to the seasons and to the land. The garden taught me that every creature on this farm gave something to the farm, and received nourishment from it as well. I quickly began to understand that if f I wanted all of us to be nurtured by food, I must first nurture the environment in which it grows.
So, my view of creatures and insects we share our farm with grew, and understanding of life's processes blossomed, and through this recognition, the whole of our environment became front and center in my mind. Life, the seasons, planting, harvest, rest, and rebirth are all intertwined - you cannot have any of those without all the others being in balance.
My old view of 'diet' changed completely when I realized that 'diet' was never meant to be 'deprivation' but rather about variety and natural foods, balance, and thoughtfulness. Making better choices goes an awful long way. Knowing what we are feeding our bodies is paramount to thriving. From there I embraced it all - caregiving, farming, growing, nurturing, and living. And I haven't looked back.
Scent Garden Farm was never a plan; it was how the flow of live simply carried me from place to place here . . . and then I realized this is such a good thing it would be a shame not to share with those who like to know where their food comes from!
Soon we will be offering frozen meals - wholesome, hellagood meals, made especially for those who work a lot and have families to care for. Time is a valuable commodity. It is my hope to give parents more time with their children and families. Also, I made pretty darn good preserves, pickles, salsas and all things saucy . . . all these items will be available as well.
So, welcome to my world 2026. You can follow us on FB if you like. We have 2 pages - one for the farm and the other for our Bakery. I've posted videos of the farm.
We're just getting started! :). It would be nice to meet more friends along the way.
